Travel Itinerary of Udaipur
Udaipur ” The Venice of the east ” is one of the most sort out places to visit among the people from all around the world. The City in itself is best endowed with natural and as well as man made marvels. Udaipur has lots of Lakes (mostly man made) because of which it is also called “The City Of Lakes”(Watch my lake video here). Here I will plan a small three day travel itinerary plan which will help you to see most of the City of lake.
If you want to just know about Udaipur you can read our post Udaipur City of lakes. But if you want to plan a visit to udaipur then read on….
1) The Old City : Day 1
You can easily reach udaipur by Air, Train or Road choose your preferred mode of travel. Once you reach udaipur I recommend to stay in a hotel which is situated in the Old city or the Ghats of Lake Pichola. You can find Good deals on bookingdotcom.
Day 1 of My travel Itinerary :- After checking in the hotel it is always preferable to visit City Palace udaipur the first attraction in your travel Itinerary to udaipur. The visit will take most of your day as it is huge with lots of activities to do within the palace itself.
Like first you can either take a Guided Tour or and Audio tour of the place which I guess will take up to one to two hours depending on how much you are into historical places.
After completing the tour you can have lunch at Palki Khana which is situated inside the Palace complex. Now you can visit the crystal Gallery followed by a boat tour of the whole Pichola Lake this will consume almost whole of the day.
After the tour you can visit the famous Jagdish temple which is just outside the Palace gates and get indulge in the beautiful Aarti in the evening after your holy rendezvous you can visit the local market which is situated all around the temple .
After indulging in some shopping you can visit the Ghangaur ghat a must see in your travel itinerary in the evening for some peace and sit at the ghat and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere all around the lake.
Then you can visit Bagore ki haveli Museum which is situated next to Ghanghaur ghat and enjoy Rajasthani folk dances which are performed there in the evening.
After Enjoying the Folk performance you can Enjoy dinner near the Ghanghaur ghat itself as there are many restaurants around this place.
If I would have to recommend and you want to keep it light then you can enjoy snacks and coffee at Jheel’s Ginger Cafe .Want to Enjoy a Scrumptious dinner by the lake then you can have dinner at Upre or The Sunset terrace they are both overlooking and just by the lake.
This will conclude your Day 1 of travel in which you would have covered almost whole of the Old City Of udaipur.
2) The udaipur City : Day 2
Day 2 of my travel itinerary :- After a whole day you spent in the old city of Udaipur its now time to book a Cab as now we will see other famous landmarks of udaipur which are situated on other famous lake of udaipur.
In the morning I would recommend you visit the Monsoon Palace situated atop a Mountain this great palace was only partially completed but It is open for Public you can roam around the palace and see the great view it offers from its balconies after completing your rounds you can visit the Biological park situated at the foothill of the Monsoon’s Palace mountain.
After the tour of the park you can go straight to Maharana Pratap Memorial situated at the banks of Lake Fateh Sagar. It is a memorial dedicated to the great prince of mewar and also houses a museum where you can learn about his great en-devours.
After your tour down the memory lane you can visit the Famous Saheliyon ki Badi (Park) which has special fountains that if you listen closely make you feel like it is raining all around you they also house a small Science museum inside there campus. After the walk in the Park you can have your lunch at Steam Restaurant a cosy open restaurant situated at the banks of Lake Fateh sagar.
After having your lunch you can visit Shilpgram it is a rural art and craft complex and is spread over 70 acres of land surrounded by the aravali mountains. Though best time to visit shilpgram is during shilpgram festival which is held at the end of December(Check out my movie of Shilpgram Festival 2017) but you can find some authentic Rajasthani shops and folk dances going on during other time of the year.
after your tour to shilpgram you can go back to lake Pichola towards the Maniklal Verma Park where you can enjoy the rope-way to the top of the mountain they really have a great view and an ancient temple atop that mountain and you can actually see the whole of udaipur from the top.
By the time you are done with the rope-way it will be almost dinner time if you want to have dinner at the middle of the lake i would recommend going to Jagmandir palace Though food is OK but they have magnificent view of the banks which in itself is really fulfilling. If you want to dine in luxury you can always do that by having dinner at The Leela kempinski or Udaivillas Palace both offer phenomenal meal and amazing hospitality. I would recommend to book your table in advance as they might not entertain you in the last minute.
This will by and large conclude your day 2 of your trip to udaipur city.
3) Around udaipur City : Day 3
Udaipur is Surrounded by lots of great places in a mere distance of 50 kms (Around 25 miles) and third day is rather a personal choice you can visit Jaismand Lake(Asia Second largest man made lake), Ranakpur sanctuary, Kumbhalgarh etc. we chose Kumbalgarh fort as according to me it is a place of historical importance thus a must visit Place.
You can start early in the morning from udaipur and in around 2 hours you will reach your destination the road is very scenic so make sure you click some pictures on the way after you reach kumbhalgarh spend your time there learn about the local history( it is also said that the wall around the fort can also be seen from the space station true or myth that I am not sure)
By the time you are done with the fort it will be lunch time and you can try one of my old favorite The Aodhi it has good ambiance and nice food.
On your way back to udaipur you can visit one more landmark ie. The Haldi Ghati this is the place where the most epic battle of haldi ghati took place and you can really see the color of the clay here is that of the turmeric which gave it its name haldi(turmeric) Ghati.
This concludes my three day itinerary of udaipur though there is lot more to see in the beautiful city of lakes but I think this itinerary covers the main historical and romantic parts of Udaipur.
