Jungle Safari Tips

The best roads are those that connect us with nature in ourselves. Wildlife and magnificent sunrises, those are the ingredients of a vacation you owe to your inner self. Safari derives from the Swahili word for “journey” or “being on the road.’’

That being said, less is more when it comes to jungle safari.

First of all, the quality of your vacation depends on your mind frame, willingness to explore, and opening yourself to new cultures. Your ability to embrace the spirit of the safari, that ancient energy, to feel and hear the call of Africa, and let Mother Nature hug you once again.

I promise that you’ll have such a refreshing experience that you will fall in love with the simplicity of an all-inspiring safari holiday.

If you are thinking of going to Africa sometime soon, then read our tips on planning the perfect safari.

01 Prepare for early wake-up calls:

A jungle safari is an active type of vacation, so in that context, you should be prepared for long distance tours – lots of walking, hiking, running and climbing, as well as early wake-up calls. I highly recommended that you cut daily intake of alcohol, and try to go to bed on time. You will need plenty of rest after a day like that.

In the wilderness, everything is unpredictable. You can be prepared for anything and, even then, you can have big surprises. This is also due to the fact that the climate varies a lot in different parts of Africa, so do your research on the country you are going to see. Find a meteorological chart for the period of time that you are planning your visit.

Furthermore, you should talk to your doctor before saying YES to JUNGLE SAFARI in 2018, especially if you suffer from chronic conditions like asthma or diabetes.

jungle Safari can be (and usually are) very challenging. But that is one of the gorgeous sides of Africa.

02 Do your Research:

What are your preferences? Do you like guided safaris or something a bit more adventurous? Or maybe you expect some unexpected twists? Africa will give you all of that and much more than you might expect.

Safaris can be quite intensive, both physically and emotionally. They can either be a spiritual and an ordinary place to be, it all depends on you.

With so many options available, choosing your first safari destination may seem like a daunting task. Luckily, you can’t go wrong with Botswana, the Kalahari Desert, Okavango Delta, and Zambia with its unrealistically beautiful and fascinating Victoria Falls.

Maybe you prefer Tanzania, home to Africa’s highest peak Mount Kilimanjaro, a stunning view that will inspire and lift you to the unknown parts of your being.

And how about some of the most sincere and authentic roots of Kenya? The Maasai Mara National Reserve will win your heart!

You should definitely also consider Volcanoes National Park, forever green and full of light, where you can see endangered species of mountain gorillas and golden monkeys.

03 Pack Wisely:

The simplest and most useful tip I can give is to be able to pack in 15 minutes tops, but if you’re going on a safari for the first time, feel free to take your time. Also, you should be able to carry everything in one bag.

So, what should be on your must-have list?

  • Clothes of natural bright materials in which you will feel comfortable while protecting your skin from branches, mosquitos, and bugs. You should not be too warm, nor too cold. To achieve that, dress in layers.
  • White is not the only color that qualifies for your safari baggage. It is not a big deal if you pack something else that you like. Remember: comfort, practicality, and aesthetics are also important, especially if you’re preparing for lots of Instagram stories during your safari!
  • Footwear is a really important part. You need shoes that are comfortable, safe and warm. Besides that, you should also bring a pair of flip-flops, for those days when you are in your hotel or on the beach
  • Don’t forget to bring a hat! It will protect you from the sun and other small things that can end up in your hair, like bugs, dust and so on.
  • Must have traveling gadgets:

-Smartphone
-Smartphone charger (at least one!)
-Camera/DSLR
-Tripod (optional)
-Lenses
-Lens cleaning kit
-Power bank / Battery bank
-Memory cards (SD cards)
-Wet wipes (not really a gadget itself, but they can prove to be very useful!)
-Battery lamp/Flashlight
-Replacement batteries for battery lamps
-Waterproof watch
-Sports glasses

04 How to stay Healthy during a Safari:

Last, but not least, here are some useful health tips for your safari. You wouldn’t want to ruin your own vacation, would you?

    • Take your anti-malaria pills every day. If that is too much for you, your doctor can prescribe pills that you can take once a week.
    • Think about your prescribed medication and continue to use just like before.
    • Don’t lose your tourist guide!

Yes, you can go on a safari to see and feel that wonderful life that’s flourishing in front of your eyes. If you want to stop and take a photo or just stand and gaze into it, feel free to enjoy and appreciate the moment. But please, don’t go too far from the group.

  • Don’t touch every plant you see!
